Data Modelling How Swiggy's Data Model Is Built
From entities and keys to a normalised, production-shaped schema for a real food-delivery system.
Everyone writes SQL. Very few can design the tables behind it. In three hours we build Swiggy's data model live: entities, attributes, keys and cardinality, an ERD sketched before any DDL is written, normalization from 1NF to 3NF — and when denormalizing is the right call — finishing with customers, orders, order_items and restaurants wired end to end. You leave with a schema you can defend in an interview, and a repeatable way to model any system.
Agenda
What we'll cover
- Data Model — entities, attributes, PK/FK and cardinality
- ERD — how to draw a system on paper before you build it
- Normalization — 1NF → 2NF → 3NF, and when to denormalize
- Swiggy System ERD — customers → orders → order_items → restaurants, built live
- Live Q&A at the end
