India tech hiring in 2026: what 15,429 live job postings reveal
PrepNPlaced continuously indexes Indian tech job postings to power its job-matching tools. This report aggregates the 15,429 postings collected between 1 May – 29 July 2026 from LinkedIn and Naukri company feeds. Every figure is computed from that corpus — nothing is estimated or taken from third-party reports — and the methodology, including its limitations, is at the end.

The fresher squeeze, quantified
Of 15,429 live Indian tech postings collected between 1 May – 29 July 2026, just 908 — 5.9% — were tagged entry-level or junior, while 7,728 (50.1%) asked for senior candidates and a further 608 for lead-level roles. For every entry-level opening there were roughly eight senior ones. This is the measured backdrop to why fresher applications feel brutal in 2026: the market is hiring, but it is overwhelmingly hiring experience.
Which roles are actually in demand?
Share of the 15,429 postings by classified role family; the remainder spans QA, program management, design and unclassified roles. Data analyst demand running at 3.5× data-scientist demand is the quiet story here — the "sexiest job" narrative has not matched Indian posting volume for a while.
What do data engineering jobs ask for in 2026?
Among the 661 data-engineer postings, Python appears in 55.7% and SQL in 52.2% — the non-negotiable pair. Cloud splits almost evenly (AWS 34.5%, Azure 32.7%, GCP 19.8%), which means the platform you know matters less than knowing one deeply. Spark appears in 22.1%, Snowflake in 20.0%, Databricks in 16.9%, Airflow in 13.9% and dbt in 9.8% — the modern-stack tools are differentiators, not entry requirements.
And data analyst jobs?
Among 2,310 data-analyst postings: SQL leads at 34.3%, Python at 26.1%, Power BI at 21.8%, Excel at 20.5% and Tableau at 13.5%. Power BI out-mentioning Tableau by ~1.6× reflects how far Microsoft-stack analytics has spread through Indian services and GCC hiring.
Where the jobs are
Consolidating area variants, Bengaluru dominates with ~5,546 located postings — more than Hyderabad (~1,920), Pune (~1,338) and Mumbai (~1,192) combined. Chennai (1,305), Gurugram (863) and Noida (545) follow. The most frequent posters in the window were Wipro (674), Cognizant (401), Qualcomm (386), Capgemini (366), EXL (344), EY (339), Siemens (322) and Google (319).

Methodology & limitations
- Dataset: 15,429 job postings collected 1 May – 29 July 2026 from PrepNPlaced's continuously-indexed LinkedIn (13,202) and Naukri company/live (2,209) feeds plus curated promotions; aggregated 29 July 2026.
- Skill demand is mention share: the percentage of postings whose title or description contains the technology as a whole word (word-boundary matching — a naive substring count inflates Excel ~4× via “excellent” and Java via “JavaScript”). A mention is not a hard requirement.
- Role families and seniority come from our production classifier; ~20% of postings are unclassified and counted only in totals.
- City counts consolidate area variants (e.g. “Bengaluru East”, “Bangalore Urban”). Postings without a listed city are excluded from city figures only.
- No salary figures appear in this report. Fewer than 300 postings in the corpus disclose an INR salary — too few to publish honestly. We would rather publish nothing than model it.
- Postings skew toward companies that publish publicly on LinkedIn and Naukri; walk-in and agency-only hiring is under-represented.
