India tech hiring in 2026: what 18,752 live job postings reveal
PrepNPlaced continuously indexes Indian tech job postings to power its job-matching tools. This report aggregates the 18,752 postings collected between 26 September – 26 October 2026 from LinkedIn and Naukri company feeds. Every figure is computed from that corpus. Nothing is estimated or taken from third-party reports, and the methodology, including its limitations, is at the end.

The fresher squeeze, quantified
Of 18,752 live Indian tech postings collected between 26 September – 26 October 2026, just 799 (4.3%) were tagged entry-level or junior, while 9,656 (51.5%) asked for senior candidates and a further 572 for lead-level roles. For every entry-level opening there were twelve senior ones, up from eight in the July edition. This is the measured backdrop to why fresher applications feel brutal in 2026: the market is hiring, but it is overwhelmingly hiring experience, and the share for freshers has narrowed since the summer.
How many Indian tech jobs are remote?
In PrepNPlaced's analysis of 18,752 postings (October 2026), 147 (0.8%) were flagged remote. The July edition found 0.4%.
Which roles are actually in demand?
Share of the 18,752 postings by classified role family; 2,219 (11.8%) are unclassified and counted only in totals. Data analyst demand running at 3× data-scientist demand is the quiet story here: the "sexiest job" narrative has not matched Indian posting volume for a while. Data engineering's share has risen from 4.3% in July to 7.7%.
Which technologies do Indian tech postings name most?
In PrepNPlaced's analysis of 18,752 postings (October 2026), Python is named in 28.2%, the most of the 18 technologies the report counts, followed by SQL at 21.6%. Among the clouds, Azure (19.2%) is named more often than AWS (17.1%) and GCP (8.5%).
What do data engineering jobs ask for in 2026?
Among the 1,449 data-engineer postings, SQL appears in 45.2% and Python in 42.7%, the non-negotiable pair. Azure leads the cloud mentions at 32.2%, then AWS 30.1% and GCP 14.6%, so the platform you know matters less than knowing one deeply, and in India that one is most often Azure. Databricks appears in 19.3%, Spark in 16.1%, Snowflake in 16.1%, Kafka in 9.8%, Airflow in 7.6% and dbt in 5.0%. The modern-stack tools are differentiators, not entry requirements.
And data analyst jobs?
Among 2,534 data-analyst postings: SQL leads at 34.6%, Excel at 24.3%, Python at 22.6%, Power BI at 21.6% and Tableau at 13.3%. Power BI out-mentioning Tableau by ~1.6× reflects how far Microsoft-stack analytics has spread through Indian services and GCC hiring; Excel overtaking Python since July is the shift worth noting for freshers.
Where the jobs are
Consolidating area variants, Bengaluru dominates with ~7,107 located postings, more than Hyderabad (~2,691), Pune (~2,393) and Mumbai (~1,305) combined. Chennai (~1,516), Gurugram (~1,208) and Noida (604) follow. The most frequent posters in the window were Wipro (1,258), Larsen & Toubro (617), NTT DATA (598), EXL (506), Cognizant (444), Birlasoft (427), Qualcomm (329), Cisco (326), Mastercard (304) and Google (268).

Methodology & limitations
- Dataset: 18,752 job postings collected 26 September – 26 October 2026 from PrepNPlaced's continuously-indexed LinkedIn (16,457) and Naukri company (2,276) feeds plus curated promotions (19); aggregated 26 October 2026. The corpus keeps roughly the last four to five weeks of these feeds, so each edition is a rolling window, not a cumulative one; the July edition covered 1 May to 29 July.
- Skill demand is mention share: the percentage of postings whose title or description contains the technology as a whole word (word-boundary matching; a naive substring count inflates Excel ~4× via “excellent” and Java via “JavaScript”). A mention is not a hard requirement. The report counts 18 technologies: Python, SQL, Azure, AWS, Java, Kubernetes, Excel, machine learning, GCP, Docker, Power BI, Databricks, Kafka, Spark, Snowflake, Tableau, Airflow and dbt. Technologies outside that list, such as JavaScript, were not counted, so “most named” on this page means most named among these 18.
- Role families and seniority come from our production classifier; about 12% of postings are unclassified and counted only in totals.
- City counts consolidate area variants (e.g. “Bengaluru East”, “Bangalore Urban”). Postings without a listed city are excluded from city figures only.
- No salary figures appear in this report. Fewer than 300 postings in the corpus disclose an INR salary, too few to publish honestly. We would rather publish nothing than model it.
- Postings skew toward companies that publish publicly on LinkedIn and Naukri; walk-in and agency-only hiring is under-represented.
