Why format decides whether your resume gets read

As a fresher you are competing with hundreds of people who have almost the same degree, the same CGPA band and often the same two mini-projects. Nobody is rejecting you because your Java is weaker than the next person's. They are rejecting you because they could not find your skills, your project impact or your graduation year within a few seconds of opening the file. Format is what makes that information findable. A clean structure does three jobs at once: it lets a recruiter skim in the order they actually think (Who is this? What can they do? Are they available?), it lets an ATS parse your fields into the right database columns, and it signals basic professional maturity before you say a word. The exact section order for a fresher resume

Follow this order and you will rarely go wrong. Header (name, phone, email, LinkedIn, GitHub or portfolio, city). Professional summary or career objective — two lines, no more. Education — degree, college, university, year of passing, CGPA or percentage. Projects — two to four, with what you built, the stack, and the outcome. Achievements and positions of responsibility. Optional last: languages known, or extracurriculars if genuinely relevant. Everything is reverse-chronological within a section: most recent degree, project or internship first. One page is the rule for freshers with under two years of experience. If you are spilling to a second page, you are almost certainly padding — school details, hobbies, or three lines of objective are the usual culprits. Cut those before you shrink the font.

Section-by-section formatting rules

Header: name at 16-18pt, contact line at 10pt below it. Use a professional email — firstname.lastname@gmail.com, never coolguy_143. Add a hyperlinked LinkedIn and GitHub; recruiters click them. Here is the complete skeleton. Fill it in exactly as laid out and you have a working fresher resume. NAME (large, bold). Contact line. SUMMARY: two lines naming your degree, your two strongest skills and the role you want. EDUCATION: B.Tech/B.Com/B.Sc line with college, CGPA, year; below it Class 12 with board and percentage only if you are a first-year or second-year student with nothing else to show. PROJECTS: three entries, each with a bold title plus stack in brackets, then two bullets — one on what you built and how, one on the result or scale. TECHNICAL SKILLS: four grouped lines. The skeleton stays the same; the emphasis shifts. A software developer fresher leads with Projects and GitHub — that is the proof. A data analyst fresher leads with Projects too, but each bullet must name the dataset size and the tool.
