Fresher resume template in Word: three free downloads

Three .docx files you can open in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice and edit line by line. Each is a one-page, single-column resume format for freshers with [Square Bracket] slots where your own details go. Pick the one that matches what you actually have, fill it in, then check the finished file against a real job description.

Pick the one that fits you

Same layout rules in all three. The difference is which sections exist, because a resume with an empty Internships heading reads worse than one without the heading.

General fresher resume

Any branch, any role. Use this one if you have an internship, a part-time job or freelance work to put on the page.

Sections in the file

Objective
Education
Projects
Skills (languages, tools and frameworks, domain)
Internships & Experience
Certifications & Achievements

The default choice. It is the section order the fresher resume format guide teaches, already typed out.

Software and data fresher resume

Software, data and QA applications, where a recruiter opens your GitHub before reading anything else.

Sections in the file

Summary
Education
Projects, each with a GitHub link line
Technical Skills (languages, frameworks, databases, tools)
Internships
Certifications & Coding Profiles

Skills are split across four lines instead of one blob, so a recruiter scanning for a specific stack finds it.

No-internship fresher resume

You have not interned yet. This version carries no internship section at all, so you are not left with an empty heading.

Sections in the file

Objective
Education
Academic & Self-Built Projects
Skills (core, tools, languages)
Positions of Responsibility & Volunteering
Certifications

Projects and responsibility roles take the space internships would have used, which is what recruiters read them for anyway.

Why It Parses

What makes these files ATS-safe

Most large Indian employers run your file through a parser before a person opens it, and recruiters search Naukri by keyword. So every layout decision in these templates is the boring one. Each line below is a property of the files themselves.

Single column, no sidebar

A parser reads straight across the page. Two-column templates interleave the columns and scramble your skills into your dates.

Zero tables

Spacing comes from paragraph settings. Tables used for layout are the most common reason a good resume parses into the wrong fields.

Zero images

No photo, no logos, no skill rating bars. A bar that shows Python at four stars carries no information a recruiter can use.

Nothing in the document header or footer

Your phone number and email sit in the body, on line three. Parsers routinely drop the header and footer region entirely.

Plain section headings

Objective, Skills, Projects, Education, Certifications. Not My Journey or What I Bring. The parser matches on the ordinary word.

Real selectable text

You can highlight every line with the cursor. Design-tool exports that flatten the page into a picture parse as blank.

One page

The placeholder text fits a single page before you touch it, so there is room for your own bullets without a spillover page.

One date format throughout

Every date slot reads [Month Year], including the graduation line. Mixing Jun 2025 with 06/25 in the same file confuses parsers and looks careless to a human.

A4 page size

Set to A4, not US Letter. A Letter-sized file reflows when it is opened or printed against an Indian default, which is how a one-page resume quietly becomes two.

That covers the file. The rest is content, and the fresher resume format guide has the section-by-section rules these templates follow.

How To Use It

Filling it in

Downloading is the easy part. Work through the file in this order and you will not stall halfway down page one.

1

Start with the header

Name, degree and graduation year, city and state, a +91 number, a professional email, then LinkedIn and GitHub. Replace the whole bracket including the brackets themselves. Leave the header where it is, in the body of the document.

2

Write the opening two lines

The general and no-internship files open with an Objective; the tech file opens with a Summary. Name the role you want, the two skills you can defend in an interview, and what you bring. Two lines, no more.

3

Fill the projects before anything else

Every project bullet already has a number slot in it, because a bullet without a number reads like a syllabus entry. Use rows of data, users, test cases, hours saved or team size. Use the real figure. Never invent one.

4

Delete what you cannot fill

An empty Certifications heading draws more attention to the gap than no heading at all. Remove the block, keep the rest, and let the sections you can evidence take the space.

5

Search for the [ character, then export

One leftover placeholder is the fastest way to lose a shortlist. Search the document for an opening square bracket, clear every hit, delete the reminder line at the bottom, then export as PDF named Firstname_Lastname_Role.pdf unless the portal asks for .docx.

6

Check it against a real job

Paste the job description you are actually applying to and see which of its words are missing from your file. If whole sections come back weak, rewrite them against the same job description rather than guessing.

FAQ

Common questions

Are these fresher resume templates really free?

Yes. All three files download straight from this page with no sign-up, no email address and no watermark. They are ordinary .docx files, so they open in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice Writer or WPS Office, and every line is editable.

Which of the three templates should I pick?

Pick the general one if you are from any branch and have an internship, part-time job or freelance work to show. Pick the software and data one if you are applying to engineering or analytics roles and want a GitHub link on every project. Pick the no-internship one if you have never interned, because it removes that section instead of leaving an empty heading on the page.

Should I send the Word file or a PDF?

Export to PDF before you apply, unless the application portal specifically asks for .docx. Keep the Word file as your master copy so you can retune the skills line and the top project for each job in a couple of minutes. After exporting, open the PDF and try to select your name with the cursor. If it does not highlight, the file saved as an image and a parser will read it as blank.

Will this template pass an ATS?

The file will parse. Single column, no tables, no images, plain headings, real text and nothing in the document header or footer are the conditions a parser needs, and each of the three files meets all of them. What happens after parsing depends on your content, not the layout. Mirror the vocabulary in the job description and keep your strongest proof in the top third of page one.

Can I use this as a CV template for freshers?

For company hiring in India, CV and resume mean the same thing at entry level, so yes. The exception is academic and research applications, where a CV runs several pages and adds publications, teaching and conference sections. For a campus placement, a Naukri application or a referral, use the one-page resume.

What do the square brackets in the file mean?

Every [Square Bracket] is a slot you replace, brackets included. They cover names, dates, tools, numbers and links. The last line of each file is a reminder to keep it to one page, export as PDF and never invent a number, and that line says to delete it before sending.
