What is a data engineering course?
A data engineering course teaches you to build the pipelines that move data from source systems into tables people can trust: SQL and Python first, then a processing engine such as Spark, a cloud platform, a warehouse or lakehouse, orchestration and data quality checks. A useful one ends with projects you can explain in an interview. Courses sold in India differ mostly in live hours, format, fee and refund terms, which is what the table below compares.
How we compared them
Every number in the table was read on each vendor's own course page on 27 September 2026, then re-checked by a second reader the same day. If a page shows a struck-through price and an offer, the offer price is recorded and the original is noted. If a price only appears with a coupon code, it is not recorded. If a page does not print a fee, live hours, batch size or refund policy, the cell says 'not published' rather than guessing from a listicle or a counsellor call.
'Live hours' means hours with an instructor on the call. Recorded video hours are noted separately, because they are not the same product. Placement wording is quoted as the vendor wrote it, so you can judge it yourself.

What are the price bands in 2026?
Four bands, and the gaps between them are mostly about hours and credentials rather than syllabus. Free covers the Zoomcamp and, in practice, the Coursera certificates if you finish inside a trial. Certification preparation with an instructor runs ₹25,000 to ₹50,000. Live cohorts that publish a fee sit between ₹35,000 and ₹1,60,000, and the spread inside that band tracks contact hours: 32 hours at ShifttoTech Level 1, 160 hours here. Above ₹3,00,000 you are buying a university diploma, which is a different decision with a different refund schedule.
Two vendors with a strong brand in this category, Bosscoder and Simplilearn, do not print a fee on the course page. Treat an unpublished price as the start of a negotiation, and ask for the number in writing before you give a phone number.

What are you paying for?
Every data engineering course in India teaches close to the same stack: SQL, Python, Spark, a warehouse, an orchestrator, one cloud. The syllabus is not the differentiator, and any school claiming a secret curriculum is selling you the table of contents.
The things that vary are teaching hours, batch size, whether a human reviews your code, and what happens after the last class. Those are the columns in the table, and they are the ones most often left off a vendor's page. Where the table says 'not published' for live hours, ask before you pay; a course that will not state its hours is asking you to compare it on brand.
Which option suits which learner?
None of these is the best course. They solve different problems, and the right pick depends on how much structure you need, how much time you have, and whether you want a certificate, a credential or a portfolio.
Where does the PrepNPlaced cohort fit, and where does it not?
PrepNPlaced runs an AI-Powered Data Engineering cohort at ₹59,000, one payment, refundable within seven days of payment or until the second live class, whichever comes first. Cohort 4 opens with an orientation on Saturday 26 September 2026; classes start Saturday 3 October and run Saturday and Sunday, 7 to 9:30 AM IST, in a batch of 40. That buys 160 hours of live teaching across eight modules and 64 classes, plus nine guided project hours: about ₹369 per live hour, the lowest in the table among courses that publish both numbers. Durgesh Yadav and Pragya Rathi teach it; both are data engineers at 7-Eleven.
Three projects go to public GitHub repos under your name, which is the part we care most about. An interviewer can open them. A certificate cannot be opened. The seat also includes six months of the Pro plan, sold on its own at ₹17,999 on our pricing page.
Fifty-three people from earlier cohorts rated the teaching 4.7 out of 5 (38 gave five, 14 gave four, one gave three; latest responses 14 September 2026). We publish the distribution because a mean without one is not information.
Do not buy it if you want a university credential, if weekend mornings do not work, or if you already ship pipelines at work and only need certification prep. Prepzee fits that last case better; the Zoomcamp fits if you learn fine on your own; ShifttoTech fits if a batch of ten matters more to you than hours.
How do you read a placement claim?
Look at the placement column again. '100% job assistance', 'guaranteed interviews', 'career support', '500+ career transitions', '93% of our students get employed'. None of those is a placement rate with a denominator, and none names a batch. Ask these four questions of every school on the list, including us. A school that will not answer them in writing is telling you something.
