What To Learn And How To Practice

Where does the fresher band come from, and what does it cover?

The only fresher figure PrepNPlaced quotes is upGrad's: ₹3-6 LPA for data analysts with 0 to 2 years of experience, as compiled in PrepNPlaced's India Tech Salary Report 2026 (published 6 July 2026). LPA means lakhs per annum, and the figure is CTC, the yearly cost of employing you, which includes parts that are not paid every month. PrepNPlaced has no salary data of its own to add. Its India Tech Hiring Report found that fewer than 300 postings in its corpus disclosed an INR salary, too few to publish, so this page quotes no other band and no city figure. Use the band as a reference, then check the offer itself with the steps below.

Band: ₹3-6 LPA for 0 to 2 years (upGrad, as compiled in the India Tech Salary Report 2026, 6 July 2026)
Unit: yearly CTC, not in-hand pay
Not covered: city-wise and company-wise figures, which PrepNPlaced has no sourced number for

What moves a fresher's offer within or outside the band?

Company type, city, skills and the way the offer is built move a fresher's number. The table pairs each factor with what the India Tech Hiring Report counted among its 2,467 data-analyst postings, collected 23 August to 27 September 2026, and with what to show an interviewer.

What is the data analyst salary in Bangalore for freshers?

PrepNPlaced has no sourced Bangalore figure, so this page does not give one. What it can show is where the openings are: across all roles, Bengaluru had 6,590 of the India Tech Hiring Report's located postings from 23 August to 27 September 2026, ahead of Hyderabad (2,624), Pune (2,212), Chennai (1,585), Mumbai (1,232) and Gurugram (1,189). More openings mean more offers to compare, and comparing real offers is the surest way to see the city's band. Compare offers from different cities after your likely rent, not on CTC.

Collect two or more offers or recruiter bands in the same city before you decide what is normal there
Ask whether the role is in the office, hybrid or remote: only 0.7% of the report's 17,748 postings were flagged remote
Compare GCC, services and product offers on fixed pay and in-hand pay, not on the CTC headline

Which skills put a fresher at the top of the band?

The skills that get a fresher shortlisted are the ones postings name most, and the order is clear in the 2,467 data-analyst postings the India Tech Hiring Report counted: SQL in 34.6%, Excel in 23.6%, Python in 23.2%, Power BI in 20.1% and Tableau in 12.7%. These are mention shares, not pay premiums, because the report has no salary data. Spend your preparation hours in that order: SQL first, up to window functions solved live, then Excel and one BI tool, then Python.

SQL: joins, GROUP BY, CASE, window functions and one business case solved on a timer
Excel: lookups, pivot tables and a clean model with no hard-coded totals
Power BI or Tableau: one dashboard with measures you wrote and a short story it tells
Python: Pandas for cleaning and grouping, enough to read a CSV and answer a question
One domain, such as retail, banking or insurance, so your project answers sound like the business

How do you check a fresher offer before you accept it?

Check the money, the paper and the work, in that order.

  1. Ask for the offer letter and the CTC breakup in writing before you decline other offers.
  2. Separate fixed pay from variable pay, joining bonus and any other one-time amounts.
  3. Work out monthly in-hand pay: the fixed annual gross divided by twelve, minus your PF contribution, professional tax and income tax.
  4. Read any service agreement or bond for its length, the amount and when it applies.
  5. Check the title against the work: a role called analyst that is mostly data entry will not build the skills your next offer needs.
  6. Confirm the joining date, the location and whether any training period is paid.
  7. Compare offers on in-hand pay and on the work, then decide.

FAQ

Common Questions

Is ₹3-6 LPA the monthly in-hand salary?

No. It is yearly CTC (cost to company), and it includes amounts that are not paid monthly, such as employer PF, gratuity and any variable or joining pay. Your monthly in-hand figure is the fixed annual gross divided by twelve, minus your PF contribution, professional tax and income tax.

Can a fresher negotiate a data analyst offer?

Sometimes. A batch hired together on one package may have little room, while a single off-campus hire may have more. Ask once, politely, with a reason such as a competing offer or a skill the role needs, and accept the answer you get.

Why does this page quote only one salary band?

Because it is the only data analyst band on PrepNPlaced's pages that names a source: upGrad, as compiled in the India Tech Salary Report 2026 (6 July 2026). PrepNPlaced removed unsourced salary ranges from its pages on 5 October 2026, and its own job data cannot fill the gap: fewer than 300 postings in the India Tech Hiring Report disclosed an INR salary.

Do data analyst jobs for freshers ask for experience?

Most postings do. Across all 17,748 postings in the India Tech Hiring Report, 792 (4.5%) were tagged entry or junior. Apply to fresher postings, and also to junior roles that ask for a year or two if your projects cover the listed skills.

Does a Power BI certification raise a fresher's salary?

No source PrepNPlaced has measures that. Microsoft's PL-300 exam (Power BI Data Analyst Associate) shows you have studied the tool; a dashboard you built and can explain shows you can use it, and that is what interviewers spend their time on.

Where can I check data analyst salaries for a specific company?

On AmbitionBox and Glassdoor, filtered by title and experience, noting how many entries a figure rests on; in Naukri and LinkedIn postings that state a range; and from the recruiter, for the band at your level.
